I am interested in the four elements (water, earth, air and fire) which are the sensual symbols that make up the different aspects of nature and energy in the world we live in. I want the viewer to reflect on that which is interesting and enjoyable about life, the sensations we experience that we can all relate to and savour. These paintings are about water.
The Five Senses are the means through which we feel and experience life and the essence of our humanity. These are part of a set of genre paintings depicting sight, scent, touch, taste and hearing.

I think I may have just about finished my latest wild swimming painting. The composition uses blue and orange complimentaries. I have noticed that open water swimming seems to be very popular with women and that they form their own swimming clubs, so this painting depicts women engaged in an activity that women enjoy doing. I hope people like it. Oil on canvas 24 x 30 inches (or 60 x 76cm).

I've re-posted and I think I have finally nailed this genre painting I have been working on. The tones have settled down and there is a sufficient level of finish. It is part of my five senses series, based on touch. The model is depicted contemplating a bust of a Roman emperor. The forms in Roman sculpture are so strong that they have an almost psychic nature to them, which is why they are so deeply rooted in our consciousness. Oil on canvas 65cm x 65cm.
